Classic wire eye shank won't pull or separate from button. Smaller standard U-shaped wire works well for upholstery, apparel, and crafts but might not be suitable for lightweight fabric —consider Hopper Backs, and as always... please request samples to test!

Wire eyes may be paired with either aluminum or RR shells (Standard or Low Wall) —test for best results.

44 wire eye backs have a matte or shiny finish, depending on availability —please let us know if your project has specific requirements, otherwise we will ship whatever is available in that size.

We stock some 44 wire eyes with a shorter shank by customer request, or if they are the only style available in a particular size. Our "new style" #22 back is the only one guaranteed to fit Handy and all other American international standard #22 dies; it is a 44 and 09 hybrid:

We have 44 wire eyes that meet international standards in all sizes. They do not fit unmodified Osborne, Wade, and newer C & C Metal button dies in size #22. However, we stock "small diameter" #22 to fit those dies, or as a low-cost option to purchasing a standard HUX die (the smaller diameter allows more room for thicker material). Fits some button dies when paired with low wall shells —follow link for more information.

We stock a limited selection of button backs in black oxide finish for Civil War-era reproduction apparel. Black oxide is correct to the period, and 44 wire eyes provide an authentic 1860's profile (especially when paired with flat shells). Please note that while black oxide is technically a rust-resistant finish, we suggest using care when washing finished buttons. Dry cleaning is recommended. BLACK OXIDE BUTTONS ARE IN EXTREMELY SHORT SUPPLY AND WE HAVE TEMPORARILY REMOVED THEM FROM INVENTORY. We suggest spraying black appliance epoxy on standard buttons and putting them under a hot light for a few hours. Customers report engine enamel also works.
